Hello! Welcome to creative learning center, a developmentally appropriate preschool and primary school in the Shrewsbury, NJ area where learning is a magical and marvelous journey!  At creative learning center, children of mixed age groups and backgrounds work closely together to understand each other’s talents, individuality, beliefs, and ambitions – what Piaget called, “the social construction of knowledge.” Our creative approach recognizes that children learn best when they are actively engaged in the process of discovery and of creating new concepts and understanding.

Creative learning center also believes that it is too easy to use the word, “no.”  Instead, we offer children choices, one of the most effective techniques in early learning.  By respecting children’s interests and choices, we are encouraging our children to develop initiative as well as a resilient mindset!

The Outdoor Classroom
While creative learning center’s classrooms are fun-filled and dynamic learning environments, valuable lessons are also learned outside of our four walls.  Field trips are a creative learning center favorite for children and teachers! These exciting daytime journeys enhance our real life approach to education.  Children get the opportunity to apply what they have learned in the classroom to the world around them.  By the way, parents are always encouraged to join in.

In Good Shape To Grow
Creative learning center believes that children need to be as healthy and energetic in body as they are in mind.  This is why we have creative movement and yoga sessions for building motor and perceptual skills while simultaneously developing the child’s focus and attention span.  We also have a wonderful state-of-the-art playground surrounded by green acres for physical fitness and far-reaching exploration!

Creative learning center was founded in 1982.  It was established in its present location in 1991.  The school enrolls children from two years eleven months to seven years of age.  It is fully licensed by the State of New Jersey.  The Best of Northern Monmouth Service Guides cites, “A unique and impressive approach to the preschool experience.”

Learning By Doing
Our Preschool and Primary Learning Community (Kindergarten and First Grade) operate under the philosophy that hands-on learning in school is the best way to prepare children for life’s challenges.  At creative learning center, we strive to foster all domains of development by providing diverse opportunities for social, emotional, physical, and cognitive growth.  Integration of traditional subject matters (arts, literature, science, math, and social studies) enhances a child’s ability to draw important connections in learning and living.

Creative learning center develops “Early Literacy” skills through extraordinary children’s literature and remarkable commercial reading programs.  Self-expression and the organization of ideas are advanced by language experience activities, story-telling, and whole language skill-building.  In our Primary Learning Community, our students are encouraged to extend their experiences through daily journal writing and “inventive” spelling.   Our mathematics programs focus on the child’s ability to reason, problem-solve, and think in mathematical terms.  Math manipulatives and “work jobs” are designed to stimulate meaningful problem-solving thought processes.  Creative learning center also has computers in every classroom because we realize that children have to be prepared for a technology-driven world.
